WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS PAINTING
Morbidity and mortality - the short, precious life of a sparrow. Capturing the beauty of a found and fallen angel in a sweet little portrait. I happened upon this tiny being in the spirited, old mining town of Roslyn, WA. If I hadn’t been paying attention to my footsteps on the slanted sidewalk, I’d have crushed this little bird. Thankfully, I was able to capture her delicate beauty with my camera to later render her exquisite stillness in this tiny studio portrait. A life gone, perhaps, but not forgotten.

What I LOVE about this painting:
Luna is my very first painting of 2024 and also my very first oil portrait. It’s image is inspired by my beautiful granddaughter, Luna, who is as independent in her thinking as she is in her personal style. I love her energy, her strength, and her creative sensibilities - each of which are characteristics that are celebrated and valued in my family.
Portraiture is new for me, and a particularly challenging vehicle that I’ve intentionally chosen to help deepen my practice as an artist. Expect more portrait paintings to come in 2024 as I continue to stretch, grow and learn!
